It’s been a long time coming but I’m excited to tell you that my room is finally starting to take shape and it's at a point where I feel like I can show you the progress I’ve made so far, and give you an insight into my style and the sort of space I want to create. A lot of people know that I am really into fashion and styling, but a lot fewer know just how much I enjoy designing, planning and buying home interiors so this is a really exciting post to be sharing with you... let me know what you think!
There is still a long way to go, but to begin with I wanted to give you a bit of background as to what I was trying to create with my space so you can see where I’m headed. I wanted my room to be a space that I can escape to and really feels like, well.. me. I love being back at my family home more than anything and being surrounded by everyone I love, but after living away for three years in Birmingham I wanted it to be somewhere that I could enjoy my own company and feel like I have my own part of the house I can call my own that really represents my style where I can chill, get ready and just relax at the end of a busy day.
This has definitely not been something that has happened overnight; I’ve spent hours researching, scrolling through Pinterest and I even started buying bits and bobs for my room all the way back in April. I wanted to do it once and do it properly, paying extra attention to the small details that can make or break a room. I’ve spent hours hunting for the perfect pieces for every aspect of the room, whether it’s the most beautiful bedding to the pens to sit in my pen pot and although it may seem a little over pedantic I’m a strong believer in it being the small things that really pull the space together.
So, what is left to do?
Well the answer is a lot.
I’ve got all of the pretty bits sorted now really, but I’ve still go some of the major practical things to get sorted. I actually find these are the harder things to get right as they’re such big pieces they can completely change the room so I still have things like shelves, storage boxes and a statement chair to get sorted.
I wanted to get a feel of minimalist Scandinavian design in the room without making it feel sparse or cold, so I’ve worked in touches of pink and some more feminine textures and prints to make sure it still feels homely and warm, and of course - it wouldn’t be my room without a pompom or two!
I really hope you've enjoyed seeing what I've spent the last couple of months doing and I can't wait to share the end result! The plan is to really knuckle down after Christmas and get the room done, but until then don’t forget to let me know what you think of the room so far.
Lots of Love,
Becky xoxo
